We had a lovely day on Saturday during a workshop with NICOLA HULME, silk ribbon embroidery was a new technique to all of us. We made lots of progress through the day learning how to make roses by weaving the ribbon under and over thread, ribbon stitch was useful to make leaves and calix's. We finished off our pieces with chain, French knots and bullions.

Isn't it funny how things pop up. I needed to work out how to do ribbon embroidery for my last 'Allotment' themed entry in the Yorkshire Travelling Journal. I found it was a more fascinating technique than I had first thought. Lovely to see a photo of Nicola too.
ReplyDeleteHello - I hope you don't mind me getting in touch this way - tried via the EG website but I'm not sure it worked!
ReplyDeleteI am lead artist on a new textile project in North Yorkshire. It works with Military Wives, local museums and community groups to develop a prestigious collection of new textiles pieces to be displayed within the region. At this stage we are seeking interest from groups who may like to be involved in this 2/3 year long project: it is backed by Rural Arts in Thirsk and funded by the Army Covenant and The Arts Council, so there would be no cost for the groups involved. If you are interested and would like to know more then please get in touch.
